Prep
Wash and chop green beans and squash into small pieces.
Gather the ground beef.
Steam
Fill your steamer with water just below the basket.
Bring to a boil, then steam green beans until tender. Drain well and transfer to a pan.
Refresh the water, then steam squash in batches until tender. Drain well and transfer to a separate pan.
You should now have one pan of steamed green beans and one pan of steamed squash.
Cook
Warm a pan over medium-high and add cooking fat, such as tallow, if using a stainless steel pan.
Cook ground beef in batches until fully cooked through. Drain excess fat in a colander set over a mixing bowl, then use a funnel to transfer the grease into an empty bottle for disposal.
Divide the beef evenly between two pans.
Assemble
Divide the steamed green beans and squash evenly between the two pans of beef.
Mix everything together gently.
Portion into freezer-safe bags, weighing for even servings.
Press out as much air as possible and flatten for storage.
Stack bags in the freezer. Move to the fridge 24 hours before feeding to defrost.
This recipe makes 36 days of meals for my 14-lb dog (10 oz/day). To figure out how much raw food to feed your dog, Google weight-based guidelines and adjust as needed. I use equal parts beef and vegetables from Costco, so it’s easy to scale. Even with organic ingredients, it’s cheaper than Farmer’s Dog.
